Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up, have enough time to get a shower and then dressed in peace?
Wouldn’t it be nice to prepare (maybe even have prepared) a delicious breakfast for the whole family.
Wouldn’t it be nice the whole family gathering together and eating a healthy meal that provides you and your family with the right type of energy for the day?
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like my kind of thing. The reality though looks often very different.
Do your kids wake up way too early?
Do you feel like in a constant rush to get everyone and everything ready for the day, on time?
Do you prepare every day the same quick breakfast, like a slice of bread that can also be eaten on the way to work or school?
That sounds much more familiar to me. And then suddenly, bam! Around 10:30 am you hit a wall. All you want to do is look out the window.
I hate to say, “I told you so,” since I would sound like my grandmother, who told me that countless of times. Together with the saying:
That said, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s the meal that sets the tone of the day and is supplying you with a third of the macro and micro nutrients your body needs for the day.
So what are you eating each morning to do all these things? A cup of coffee gulped down on the go? A slice of bread with ham and cheese? A cup of sugary yogurt? Nothing at all?
When you eat a good breakfast, your day goes smoothly. No growling stomachs, low blood sugar shakiness, or wandering attention to keep you going, throughout the day, for everything and everyone who requires your attention, and what you would like to get done.
Yeap, you read correctly. Which breakfast is right for you?
Nope, don’t have a magic formula to solve this situation.
That said I have a game for you.
One of the best—and most fun—ways to find out which foods serve YOU most powerfully is something called the Breakfast Experiment.
For one week, eat a different breakfast each day. Record in a notebook what you ate, how you felt immediately after the meal, and how you felt again two hours later.
Want to get started and need some inspiration? This is how your week could look like:
Feel free to repeat the experiment for another seven days with different foods each morning. Which breakfasts made you feel energized? Which ones didn’t? After the experiment, try adding in more of the foods that made you feel great!
Here is an interesting fact that may help to rethink what we eat for breakfast.
Breast milk, which is the perfect food for newborns, is almost 50% saturated fat, yet no babies get heart disease. The human brain is approximately 70% fat.
