I love planning and I’m a real organizing ninja.
Yet, I love blank space and seeing what the day brings.
I like to be super prepared, having thought of all eventualities.
And, equally, I like to be spontaneous.
So I like a plan. I like a destination. I like to look out to the horizon.
And be open about what I might find there when I get there.
For me, this is the way to ensure the most joy. I enjoy the anticipation of something I’ve planned and relish the unknown of what’s to come.
And my planning ahead — leaving early for the appointment so finding a parking spot is not a hassle, or booking a date with a friend a month away — means joyful anticipation and a certain spaciousness. I eliminate hurry and replace it with easeful speed.
So you can guess that one of my most important rituals is my weekly planning ritual. It provides me the focus and clarity to get done what really needs to get done and say no to the rest.

Here’s how I do it:
On Sunday evenings, when my son is in bed, I sit down and plan my week. It makes me feel prepared and ready for the week to come.
I plan my week in 2 parts.
Only when I have done these 4 steps, do I move forward to the actual planning or writing my to-do list.
